Devlog #8

Hello onlookers! I can never figure out the right tone for these dev logs, I wonder if other devs have that issue? Well Either way I'm just going to play around with them until I find something that fits. On to business!

-Art and Environment- This week was a big momentum week. which are the weeks that game development is super fun. (except for Cassidy who is running through a technical rigging course from hell to learn how to do complex rigs for blender). Flynn, Lee, and I have been doing some serious damage to what we're calling our first big vertical slice level. Without spoiling story, its basically this undersea mine shaft that operates for a very 'specific' purpose. We've been using it to learn to create traps, switches, elevators. basically relearning our event tools and using this level as sort of the benchmark for game play outside the sub.

Programming

Once the Event system was done, John was able to add on a bunch of features to grant us the ability to do more complicated interactions. (creating states and tags for objects that we'll need to have objectives and missions etc). Within the same week he got in sounds a system to allow Eduardo to properly get in sounds. Everything been so quiet! AND he got in a basic save system. Now with all that he can finally shift over to making the submarine! which will include piloting and a few of the basic events. Dylan our other programmer has gotten us items! we have a basic flashlight.. das it, for now! he'll be soon adding more complex interactions with items, a gun, shovel, blow torch, other tools the crew will need to do repairs and keep the ship alive.

Story and Lore


The last thing I want to mention is our story, I know some of you from SoA did actually enjoy the world building and story of the game. It was honestly some of our favorite parts. With this game we're going to be much more hands off in story interactions. However all our world building and lore will be littered throughout the game for those who seek it. And I gotta say, the world building we have going on right now makes me want to really explore it. I think we have something very unique on our hands! (I want to spoil :X) Below is the upper few sections of the Mine shaft. including the loading bay and a rough version of the comms room. And then proceeding down the first elevator into the mine itself. Like always, its in an early stage and is subject to change!
